Amanda Matthews, M.D.
Dr. Amanda Matthews is a board-certified ophthalmologist and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. After graduating Summa Cum Laude from the University of West Georgia with a degree in biology, Dr. Matthews attended the Medical College of Georgia where she earned membership into Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society as a junior student. While at the Medical College of Georgia, she received the prestigious Georgia Woman of the Year scholarship. Dr. Matthews completed her ophthalmology training at the world-famous Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, where she was chief resident her senior year. While at Wills Eye, Dr. Matthews was a contributing author to the Wills Eye Manual.
Dr. Matthews specializes in no-stitch, no-patch, no-shot cataract surgery. She delivers the latest in customized premium intraocular lens technology. She excels in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery including aqueous shunting procedures for advanced glaucoma. She enjoys external ocular procedures and is capable of managing both conjunctival and orbital lesions. She cares for diabetes and macular degeneration and also performs intravitreal injections. Dr. Matthews is well trained in LASIK, and can also manage neuroophthalmological diseases.
Education
Dr. Matthews received her undergraduate degree from the University of West Georgia with a Bachelor of Science (Graduated Summa Cum Laude.) After that she attended Medical School at the College of Georgia, Augusta, Georgia. She then completed her internship at Willis Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
